- Design complete sewage treatment systems based on:
- Sewage flow rate (KLD / MLD)
- Inlet water characteristics
- Required outlet quality
- Site conditions
- Client specifications
- Select suitable treatment technologies such as:
- Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR)
- Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR)
- Membrane Bioreactor (MBR)
- Activated Sludge Process
- Develop treatment flow schemes based on project requirements.
- Optimize process efficiency while reducing operational costs.
2. Engineering Calculations
Perform design calculations for:
- Tank sizing
- Hydraulic retention time (HRT)
- Organic loading calculations
- Air requirement calculations
- Pump head calculations
- Blower sizing
- Pipe sizing
- Sludge generation calculations
- Chemical dosing calculations
When working on hydraulic design, common calculations include:

And for pump power:

3. Equipment Selection
Select and specify:
- Pumps
- Blowers
- Diffusers
- Agitators
- Clarifiers
- Screens

- Instrumentation
Prepare technical specifications for procurement and manufacturing.
4. Engineering Drawings & Layouts
Prepare and review:
- General arrangement drawings
- Process flow diagrams (PFD)
- Piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&ID)
- Equipment layout drawings
- Tank layouts
- Foundation drawings
- Pipeline routing drawings
Using engineering software such as:
- AutoCAD
- SolidWorks
- Autodesk Revit (if required)
5. Documentation & Technical Reports
Prepare:
- Design basis reports
- Calculation sheets
- Bill of materials (BOM)
- Technical datasheets
- Operation philosophy documents
- Equipment specifications
- Compliance documentation
Ensure all documentation follows project standards.
6. Cross-Functional Coordination
Coordinate with:
- Proposal team
- Procurement team
- Production team
- Site execution team
- Commissioning engineers
- Clients and consultants
Provide technical clarifications during project execution.
7. Compliance & Standards
Ensure designs comply with:
- Central Pollution Control Board guidelines
- Telangana State Pollution Control Board norms
- Municipal discharge standards
- Safety and engineering standards
Required Qualifications
- B.E / B.Tech in:
- Civil Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
